Atheros ethernet driver makes vista freeze
Hey,
I recently (2 months ago) bought myself a new pc and made the big step from XP to Vista (which I still regret >.<). Anyway, got the new pc from the store and it worked fine at first!
Then after one week vista kept freezing on the boot screen. After trying a few things I decided to just format my c: partition and reinstall vista and drivers. I never save any important data or whatsoever on my c drive so I wasn't too troubled with reinstalling windows. Problem solved, or so I thought..
A few weeks later, somewhere around the 19th of july I had the same problem. Vista kept freezing on the boot screen. Remembering the quick answer to my problem last time I simply formatted and reinstalled, problem 'solved' again :>
Now, about 3 weeks later I have the same problem, AGAIN! I tried finding the problem but couldn't find any so I went into safe mode. Now the thing that struck me was that I could only go into safe mode without network access.. as soon as I went for this option it would freeze on loading CRCDISK.SYS. This got me thinking that there was a problem with my LAN card.
Anyway, seeing no way to solve the problem this way I went back to my old solution and formatted the pc again. The difference with the last two times is that I can't seem to install the ethernet drivers this time. The install will just freeze, resetting the computer will result in the boot screen freezing again >_>
I was wondering if anyone could help me with suggestions or just a plain answer, because I'm getting really frustrated with this problem. Below's the specs of my pc:
AMD Phenom Q9750 2,50 Ghz Quad 4mb
ASUS M3A Motherboard (AM2)
2 x 2048 MB DDR2
ASUS 8800 GTX 768MB
Windows Vista 32bit
The problem that's likely to cause the trouble is the atheros L1 gigabit ethernet driver.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Ling
